Krusteaz Low Fat Oat Bran Pancake MixHeart-healthy pancakes

If you're looking for the ordinary pancake, these aren't it.  But if you come to your plate with an open mind you'll be so pleasantly surprised.  We recommend you leave the syrup in the cabinet for these.  Just a little Land O' Lakes light butter dressed them nicely, but we're sure they'd be fantastic with a drizzle of honey and a light shake of cinnamon if you want them a little more sweet.

The MagicallyDelicious kitchens

tend to doctor complete mixes like these with a dash of vanilla; it livens up the flavor.  We added 1/2 t to our 1 cup (2 serving) mix and it was fantastic.  These have a slightly spicy sweet flavor, and they're certainly not light and airy.  Two of these babies will stick to your ribs and keep you full for quite a while for only four points.  Now on to the review...

The Pros: These pancakes are a hearty breakfast in themselves.  You'll be skeptical, as one serving is only 2 smallish pancakes (4"), but the serving has 4 g of fiber.  These will fill you up.   They're certainly not the typical pancake but they'll satisfy a craving for pancakes.  If you like oats and spice, we think you'll love these heart-healthy flapjacks.

The Cons:  We're hard-pressed to come up with cons on this one.  They aren't very pricey which is our usual beef; the box was $2.09 at our local supermarket.  It's a just add water mix so they're quick and easy.  We did have a little trouble keeping them from scorching; be sure to use a low heat for them, but that's really not their fault is it?  Yep, can't think of any cons!

The Skinny:  If you're jonesin' for some pancakes but don't want to spend all those points, give these a try.  They'll mix up your normal breakfast routine and won't blow your diet.  Only 4 points with 4 g of fiber per serving, they're full of heart-healthy oat bran and will keep you satisfied.  We added a little light butter, but a shake of cinnamon or a dollop of honey or jam would dress them up really nicely too.  The Krusteaz site has some good-looking recipes for this mix as well.  They're quick, it's a just add water mix there's no real prep work...just get them already!

The Stats:  Serving size - 1/2 cup mix (makes 2 pancakes).  230 calories, 3 g fat (.5 g saturated, 0 trans fat), 0 cholesterol, 390 mg sodium, 45 g carbs, 4 g fiber.

No. 1 :
These pancakes or waffles are great for a low fat high fiber breakfast. I make up a large batch at one time and freeze the left overs. They heat nicely in the toaster for a quick breakfast on busy mornings.
