Soy Joy or no joy? E-mail
Written by Angie

SoyJoy--the jury is currently out

We saw the commercial for the new SoyJoy bars and they sound intriguing.  Bars made of ingredients you can actually pronounce and that are healthy for you.  We've long known that soy is great for you--high protein without the animal fats.  But we also know they make everything from food to newspaper ink to plastic out of it.  So soy food products have the potential to be...well let's just say I wouldn't want to snack on the Sunday paper.

We tried to sign up for our free sample for the SoyJoy bars as mentioned in the commercials and on their website, but apparently they were overwhelmed with responses and decided to shut it down early.  Alas, we haven't seen these in our local store yet, so we don't have a review for you.

Have any of you had these yet?  Tell us what you think.  If you'd like us to feature your article, all you have to do is join the site and submit it under the contact us tab.  We'd love to hear how these are!  And if you haven't tried these yet, well stay tuned.  We'll have a review as soon as we can get our hands on the bars.

Gnu Foods Flavor & Fiber bars E-mail
Written by Angie

gnu foods mixed results on the flavorFiber?  Absolutely.  Flavor...?

Let me preface this by saying we almost always agree with Hungry Girl on what's good in the world of diet food.  And we still sort of do on this one, but we have to say our tastes do slightly differ here so we thought we should throw our two cents in.

Gnu Foods has these fiber bars that they hold out as Chocolate Brownie Bar .  Now maybe this is just a case of the name holding too much promise for me.  A chocolate brownie is normally chocolatey, chewy, sweet and squishes in your mouth.  So when Hungry Girl raved about these, we didn't hesitate to order some.  We didn't find them in our local stores, so we dropped an order on the website and salivated until our order arrived.

Eggos Special K waffles E-mail

99% fat free Eggos are good but not really EggosEggos or ice cream cones?

One of the things I think about when I hear Eggos is that satisfying sound of soft sizzling in the toaster oven when they're nearly done (mmmmsaturated fat!).  They come out crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside.  That being said, these Eggos are really not much like their original counterparts; they're just the same shape.

We're not of the mind that all change is bad, though so read on to hear what we have to say on these little numbers.

Krusteaz Fat-free Blueberry Muffin Mix E-mail

Krusteaz Wild Blueberry Fat Free MuffinsNo one will guess they're fat free

This is another one that passed the office test.  I made these and took them in to work and told no one they were "diet."  Would the guys be able to tell?  No!  Everyone loved these; they disappeared in no time flat.

The Pros:  These are just delicious.  I was looking for a more economical alternative to those delicious Weight Watcher blueberry muffins that are around $1 a pop so I was hoping these would fit the bill.  I normally like to bake from scratch, but the recipes I found tasted like dough.  These are just like normal blueberry muffins.  They don't taste fat free at all and rival those Weight Watcher ones.  The whole mix is around $2 and makes eleven, so it's about a quarter of the price.  These are the bomb.

All-Bran Honey Oat Bars E-mail
Written by Angie

Kellogg's All-Bran barsHoney Oaty Goodness full of Fiber

The Pros:  These are really tasty and filling bars, and they're pretty big for the small amount of calories they have.  With 5 g of fiber per bar, they're pretty good for you too.  This is a nice little filling snack, and if you like the taste of honey and oats they're highly recommended.  Would make a good grab-it-on-the-run breakfast too.

The Cons:  How do we put this delicately?  There have been some reports of these...upsetting delicate stomachs?  We've heard some reports of the fiber working just a little too well if you catch our drift.  So I wouln't recommend eating more than one of these little babies a day.
